One On One Corporate Coaching
Overview
My overall aim is to provide a positive coaching experience where the coachee’s session and longer term goals are met.
Whether the purpose of coaching is for leadership development and/or personal growth it starts with your session goals. The coaching is designed to help individuals achieve their goals, raise awareness, reflect on and share their own insights, produce options for improvement, move to actions and review progress.
My philosophy is to facilitate and embed the coaching skills of reflection and reflexivity for self and others. Reflexivity entails learning through considering the wider context as well as to question and explore assumptions and alignment with deep work drives including personal values. For this reason I prefer developmental coaching to performance coaching.
Some scenarios where coaching can be helpful
- “I’ve been thrust into a leadership role that requires me to develop new skills.” Excitement can turn towards apprehension and even procrastination. Coachees have found it useful to talk with a coach about translating existing skills to new contexts and hone new skills, such as managing and motivating staff.
- “I’m stuck in a rut with low motivation.’ Worried about getting with the ‘same old, same old’.“ Working with a coach to get to the crux of the issue and brainstorm exciting new career directions or shifting patterns in the current role can help re-energise a sense of purpose.
- You want a safe space for self-exploration and creative thinking. Coaching can facilitate self-assessment, guiding you to explore ideas that many don’t make time for otherwise. For example, in one session a coachee wanted to reflect on leadership assessment of a direct report. The process led to great er understanding of strengths, motivations and ‘warning flags’ to better assess and serve the direct report.
- “I’m dealing with a tough situation. It’s sapping my time, energy and enthusiasm.” I’ve facilitated coachees working through a number of challenges, which they’ve found the answers to, sometimes that they knew implicitly but didn’t have a sounding board to work through the issues.~
- “I want to align my time and activities with my deepest work drivers and set boundaries”. With the support of tools for deep dialogue I’ve developed including the Personal Values Self Assessment (PVSA) and Leadership Purpose Self Assessment (LPSA), debriefing the results in the context of leadership and strategy challenges as well as legacy, coachees have gotten clarity on their priorities. Coachees can then devise strategies to align their time accordingly. They are now adept at setting boundaries and confident that the activities on their calendar reflect their deeper drives, purpose and vision.
In-Work Relational Dynamics Coaching
In 2019 I met up with a friend who is a therapist for a catch up in London. She asked me how things were going and after listening for a while she said, ‘Your problem is your biggest downfall.’ ‘What do you mean?’ I asked. ‘You’re too nice. And people take advantage of that.’
This started a personal journey to find out why I was attracting ‘takers’ in my personal and professional life. Schema therapy sessions followed with reading and taking an introduction to counselling course with reflective exercises. Doing the inner work uncovered my self-sabotaging, coping and default response mechanisms. Therapeutic exercises helped the on-going process of fixing the ‘bugs’ in my software. And as my inner world changed so did my outer world.
Having discovered coachees who are often ‘givers’ leaking their time, energy and accomplishments to ‘takers’ in their work-lives, I developed a coaching offering to facilitate coachees to understand this dynamic and break the co-dependency.
Synthesising and consolidating the art and science of management psychology and employee behavior with on-line free diagnostics this initial 4 session offering helps coachees understand their own response patterns in the workplace in relation with others’ patterns so they can devise their own mitigating strategies at work for more fulfilling and productive work-lives. This has been developed in consultation with a Schema therapist and business consultant informed by my own experience,
My journey triggered a transition from being full time to part time to develop coaching and strategic change workshops. By transitioning in my professional life I’m better equipped to facilitate others in their transition story.
These are just a few of the countless ways my coaching can help propel you and your career forward.
